Yay fitness! This pretty much sums up my attitude about CrossFit!
My CrossFit journey began in 2014 by being invited by my younger brother, Evan and his art teacher, Miesse. Since Michael and Silvia have taken me in, showed me an immense amount knowledge, and inspired me to take my health and fitness to paramount levels, I found myself being a CrossFit coach. I love the encouraging community and seeing people from all walks of life come together. It is such a reward to see people transform, not just physically, but also mentally and emotionally. Simply thankful to be apart of such a wonderful gym, and cannot wait to see what it becomes.

My passion for fitness and nutrition began early on, by my teens I was spending several hours a day cheering, tumbling, and running. I continued my pursuit for knowledge in this area in college, receiving a B.S. in Exercise Science from Tarleton State University, a Fitness Specialist Certification from Cooper Institute, Physical Education Certification through the Texas Education Agency, and a Kickboxing Certification through American Nimpo Kempo. I have since received my Masters in Educational Leadership from Lamar University, where I even managed to tie my passion for exercise and wellness to education and wrote my thesis on the benefits of providing school district employees with wellness programs.
I love to challenge myself, which has led to experience in many different sports including marathons, triathlons, cheerleading, kickboxing, running, weight lifting, rucks, and mud runs, but when my husband introduced me to crossfit in 2009, I was hooked! Crossfit was/is the total package, it combined my love for exercise science (yes, it is a science) and my life-long quest for optimum nutrition. Needless to say I threw out my “fat free” cook-books and replaced them with recipes that combined fats, carbs, and proteins correctly. I couldn’t believe it, I was eating avocados, nuts, seeds, and beef (items I had deprived myself of since Jr. High) and I was actually loosing fat and gaining muscle! The community and the intensity of the WODs drove me to get better, the new elements challenged and empowered me, and the variation kept me interested.
I love the transformation I have seen in others through crossfit. Crossfit makes people stronger both physically and mentally. People start working hard in the gym and suddenly they want to clean-up other aspects of their lives as well.

After completing five years in the Army as an MP and K-9 trainer, Michael has been a Police Officer for 18 years. Only being active when required (boot camp, police academy), Michael discovered CrossFit in 2011 and has enjoyed it ever since. Not having a coach to preach correct form and mobility, Michael fully understands the importance of proper coaching, while doing CrossFit WOD’s on his own he suffered a bulging disk and a torn shoulder. Michael will insist on proper warm-ups before and stretching after each and every workout. With his injury experience he wants to keep everyone safe and having fun.

Having been diagnosed with hypertension and high cholesterol at the age of 32, I knew I had to change my lifestyle. Not being active throughout my entire life, it was very difficult to find an activity I could fully enjoy. I started walking, which turned into power walking, which turned into jogging, and soon enough I was bored and needed more stimulation. I came across CrossFit through some friends and it was love at first “workout”, this was in 2011. After doing CrossFit on my own for some time, I thought I would give a professional CrossFit Box a try and see what all the fuss was about. I advanced more within 6 months with professional coaching than I ever had on my own. Having proper coaching makes the difference in many ways. A coach is able to keep you safer due to watching your movement, give you necessary encouragement and most of all, you build a community like no other. Soon you speak the language: “What was your WOD time? Did you PR? How many HSPU did you do?” CrossFit has become more than just weights, distances and times to me, it became a second family.
